All of us who are at Payap University, as well as alumni and acquaintances who respected Dr. Konrad Kingshill were saddened to be informed that he died at his residence in California on February 28, 2017. He was a central figure in the establishment of Payap. He served as a Presbyterian missionary in Thailand from the United States for 41 years, beginning in 1947. He was a model broad-minded thinker, determined to succeed, transparent in his work, trustworthy, and never critical of anyone. His legacy includes the development of educational quality from the primary level through higher education. He was the originator of a retirement pension plan for personnel of the Foundation of the Church of Christ in Thailand. Not only that, he was a blessing in the lives of many persons in many ways.
Payap University conducted a memorial service for Dr. Konrad Kingshill at 3 p.m. on Friday, March 3 in the Henry Luce Chapel. The service was replete with a commemorative atmosphere. I want to thank all those who contributed to this service, especially the Rev. William Yoder who provided the sermon, former presidents Dr. Amnuay Tapingkae and Dr. Boonthong Phoocharoen who brought impressive memorial remarks. Thanks to staff, students, retirees, alumni, and church members, who came in large numbers. Thanks be to God for sending Dr. Konrad Kingshill to live and be one of us. Even though he has departed, he remains in our thoughts. May the Lord receive his spirit to abide in heaven eternally.
