The Payap University athletic field has aged over the years. The university has embarked on a project to bring the field up to standard to be used by students and personnel for sports and related activities. A survey indicated the costs will be more than we can afford all at once. So the university has divided the improvements into phases. The first phase involved lighting so the field can be used at night. This was completed and in use last academic year.
During this current year the second phase is being undertaken. It includes putting in a football field and running track, a sprinkling system, and stands. The budget for this is about 5 million baht. The university presented this proposal to the University Support Committee and they generously agreed to conduct activities to supply funds for the athletic field improvements. The first activity was an exhibition and bidding of paintings by artist Jay Surasen. The second activity was a Rally, set up by Khun Wasin Lertkaitidamrong, presiding. Aside from this the university subsidized the fund by selling “42 Years” stickers for 42 baht to students, personnel and alumni. At this point we have part of the budgeted amount. So work has started this past week on the field. It is expected to take 6 months to complete. If you are passing the Saithantham Assembly Hall you can see the work across the drive.
The project still needs substantial funds. Should the Support Committee undertake further activities to support the completion of improvement to the athletic field I urge students, staff and alumni to help so this project can be accomplished. In this academic year there will be a Mini Marathon for walkers and runners, as we have had every year, to assist this project. This year personnel will have an expanded role. So I would encourage everyone to purchase a Mini Marathon ticket. I am sure if we all help as each is able we will have a great athletic field in the next few months.
