Preventive Measures Related to the Coronavirus (COVID-19)

Subject: Operational Protocol for the Period March 18 – 31, 2020 and Summer Semester 2019/20

 

     The number one priority of Payap University is the health and safety of university faculty, staff, and students, as well as visitors to the campus. Due to the global pandemic COVID-19 and with updated information regarding transmission and exposure, Payap University is implementing new guidelines to ensure that all Payap personnel are protected from possible exposure and infection. This announcement will be effective immediately and will cover the period 18-31 March 2020. Future operational protocols will be announced as required. 

     This announcement seeks to provide guidance on how to minimize the risk of virus exposure while ensuring that Payap personnel are still able to complete their duties in an effective manner. It includes protective actions to minimize exposure to the virus and also provides assistance to instructors in preparing course of instruction during this period.  It also includes protective actions for Payap University support staff. The following operational protocol is hereby announced and shall be implemented during the period March 18-31, 2020 which includes the summer semester of the 2019/20 Academic Year.

          1. The first day of the summer semester of the 2019/20 Academic Year has been postponed from March 23, 2020 to April 1, 2020.  Additionally, all courses must be online.

          2. Guidance for instructors and support staff.

               2.1 Under the supervision of the Deans, all instructors in charge of summer courses are required to prepare online courses.  All courses given during the summer semester of the 2019/20 Academic Year must be online.  All instructors, including those who do not have summer courses, are nevertheless required to prepare online courses for use in the next academic year (2020/21).  Instructors preparing such courses may do so at home or on-campus as approved by the Dean.

               2.2. Support staff who do not have teaching assignments may discuss with their supervisors or directors regarding how best to create a safe work place while still accomplishing the mission. This may include working from home, having alternate shifts, working on-campus in the morning or afternoon, and/or any such options which will result in minimizing exposure risk as well as ensuring all necessary work is completed in a timely and effective manner.   

          3. Instructors who will be teaching summer courses for the Academic Year 2019/20 will be provided a seminar on how to prepare online courses. This seminar will be conducted on March 24 -25, 2020, room W215, Revelation Building.

          4. Instructors who will be teaching courses which require hands-on learning and/or physical activities (e.g., laboratory learning) are required to adapt their courses in a way which will minimize virus exposure while achieving all learning outcomes set forth in the TQF2. All Deans are authorized to work with their instructors to ensure that this is accomplished.

          5. Regarding specific measures to minimize exposure and infection of COVID-19 during classes, exams, and other activities, all personnel are required to comply with the 3rd announcement on this subject dated March 17, 2020.
